After the house fire, the dog was left alone in the shelter until he found the stuffed elephant’s best friend

Smoky and his stuffed elephant were taken to a shelter on Valentine’s Day, writes ilovemydogsomuch.

Unfortunately, his family had lost his home and could not take care of him. The shelter is a terrible, noisy place. Like many dogs, Smoky did not respond well to shelter life.

He clung to his favourite toy, which could not be separated from him according to instructions.

Fear gripped Smokey as he began to roar at the people approaching him. His roar made Smoke «unacceptable» and he was assigned to euthanasia.

The beautiful five-year-old baby had spent his whole life with one man in a loving home.

When the tragedy happened, Smoke had to be handed over, his man-made sure he was at least accompanied by his favourite toy, his plush elephant.

The noise and the cold environment really reached Smokey. He started shouting at others out of fear.

Knowing what this meant for the frightened dog, the shelter staff turned to local rescue teams, hoping they would be able to rescue him in time.

Due to policy overcrowding, Smokey was introduced to the euthanasia schedule in just a few weeks. Time was running out.

Smokey և his stuffed elephant needed help… QUICKLY.

Fortunately, two volunteers from the non-profit I Have A Dream Rescue Organization came to the shelter to assess another dog on the rescue list.

«They spotted Smoke hugging his elephant and ‘immediately fell in love,'» Misty Martin-Fuller, the band’s founder, told The Dodo.

The rescue team decided to rescue Smokey. They will put her or her elephant with a foster family until she can return to her original family (if possible) OR be adopted by a new family.

Smoky and his elephant EVERYONE smiles when they know they are leaving the shelter.

«She was sad, she was lying with her elephant until she started talking to him,» said Melissa Sutherland, I Have A Dream treasurer. «It’s amazing what salvation does for dogs.»

As Smokey’s wonderful story goes viral, the rescue team is more interested than ever in their other dogs, which are available for adoption. Way, Smokey!
